Did you know that having straight teeth directly correlates to your confidence and in many cases, your success? Studies have been conducted by Invisalign, The New York Times, and countless orthodontic and dental facilities across the country on this topic. Why? Because straight teeth have been shown to do more than just make you confident. The NYT found that no matter a family’s budget or the economy in times of recession, parents, teens, and adults have placed a high priority on straightening their teeth—even going without other wants or needs to achieve it. In a study by Invisalign, they concluded that 60% percent of people felt happier, more attractive and more successful with straighter teeth. Confidence directly correlates to success in school, home life, and professional life, and can even get you your dream job. Gaining that confidence from a straighter smile whether it’s through traditional braces, lingual braces or Invisalign seems to be a major luxury that many people are striving to have. At Hardy Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, we have many fun options to choose from to achieve your radiant, confident smile. We’ll help you make that amazing first impression with a smile in less time than you think.
Some big names such as Invisalign and The New York Times have done studies about straighter teeth and the correlating success and confidence a person has. Straighter teeth provide amazing results not only for your oral health, but also for your overall well-being. Let’s see what some of these big names found, shall we?
The Dental Tribune reported on a study conducted by Align Technology, or the makers of Invisalign (one of the brands of braces we provide our patients). Over 1,000 men and women were interviewed and recorded their impressions of people from images provided. They were not aware that they were comparing those with straight teeth to those with crooked teeth, but the results of the study were amazing.
It’s amazing how much a straight smile affects perception of oneself and how others view you. The highest statistic found was that 73% of the more than 1,000 interviewed said that they would be more likely to trust someone with straight teeth than crooked teeth. How amazing is that? They also concluded that 60% percent of people personally felt happier, more attractive and more successful with straighter teeth. Confidence directly correlates to success in school, home life, and professional life, and can even get you your dream job.
This study, alongside The New York Times Study found that straight teeth came second to one’s weight in how confident a person felt about themselves. The majority of people would also go without many wants (such as fast food, desserts and even vacation) to save money for a straighter smile. The NYT studied orthodontic care at a time when the economy was suffering and recession was in full-force. They found that most people were cutting out major wants and even needs from their budgets, but orthodontic care didn’t take a hit. In fact, families viewed orthodontic care (a.k.a. straighter teeth) as an absolute necessity in times of recession. Straight teeth were viewed as a luxury, whereas in decades before it wasn’t always seen as such. Much of this is due to perception in our modern world, where a first impression can determine whether you get a job, and how you are viewed by others. No matter a family’s budget or the economy in times of recession, parents, teens, and adults have placed a high priority on straightening their teeth. That should tell you just how important it is.
